The Tale of Jack O'Lantern

As the days grow shorter and the nights grow darker, it is the season for gathering close and sharing tales of ghosts, spirits and folklore passed down through generations.

Lots of the Halloween traditions and stories that we're familiar with today come from Irish and Scottish mythology and folklore. Samhuinn, or Samhain, is known as Summer's End, when the dark half of the year begins on 31st October.

Join our Master Storyteller, Jared, as he retells the classic Irish folktale of Stingy Jack, the cunning trickster who outwitted both Heaven and Hell. From chance encounters with angels to bargains with the Devil himself, hear how the Jack o'Lantern came into being.

Unveil the spirits of Edinburgh's deepest underground and darkest tales this Halloween. This October, join us on an Edinburgh Halloween tour. Learn more about Scottish traditions and visit one of the most haunted places in Scotland on the most haunted of nights. Join us in Edinburgh’s underground: the Blair Street Underground Vaults.
