Things to do in Edinburgh This Father’s Day 2026

26th May 2026

Summer is just around the corner, and the weather is heating up! Kick off the season with our list of the best things to do in Edinburgh for Father’s Day—with whoever you want to celebrate, and whether you’re celebrating now or later.

Enjoy everything from a tour of the Edinburgh underground vaults to a deep dive into World War II history.

1. Tour the National Museum of Scotland

Hear about the history that isn’t displayed on a plaque. From the world-famous to the curious, explore the objects that helped shape Scotland and the world.

The museum is full of fascinating objects, and you can head straight to the most striking ones and learn their secrets on a guided tour.

Reveal the lesser-known stories behind some truly extraordinary pieces. Fridays, 2pm, until the end of June.

2. Edinburgh Castle: Memories from the 2nd World War

Of all the places to visit in Edinburgh, the castle is an obvious must-see. Time your visit to coincide with their new WWII exhibit at the National war Museum.

This exhibit combines personal stories and photography to explore the use of maps in the Second World War. Uncover the stories of Prisoners of War, RAF pilots, Brigadiers and army chaplains through the maps they kept.
