5 Things to Do in Edinburgh this Winter

1. Try an Underground Edinburgh Tour 

Sometimes mistaken as being Edinburgh catacombs, the Blair Street Underground Vaults are the deepest and most extensive set of vaults in the Scottish capital. Of all the places to visit in Edinburgh, these vaults are a must-see. 

Not only do they offer an escape from the chilly temperatures outside, but they’re also full of interesting history and stories.

Discover the man behind some of history’s most iconic aerial photos at this new exhibition from the Scottish National Galleries.  

Marvel at unprecedented 20th century perspectives of Edinburgh and the death-defying lengths they took. Even better? It’s free, and on until 19 April. 

 

3. Witches Tour 

8 March is International Women’s Day, the perfect time to remember the thousands of women accused of witchcraft during the Scottish Witch Trials.

5. Visit the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh 

The Edinburgh botanics have been situated in Inverleith since the 1820s, but 2026 is an especially exciting year for them.

The newly restored Palm Houses will be reopening after four years of extensive work. Their February tours might be sold out for now, but join the waitlist to be one of the first to walk through the glasshouse doors again.
