We are delighted to announce that we have won Responsible Business of the Year at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2019!
The award was presented at the Awards to us by Councillor Lezley Marion Cameron and we could not be happier to share the news with our staff and our visitors.
Mercat Tours was established in 1985 by local history teacher Des Brogan, providing award-winning and accredited guides to help visitors and locals alike to explore Edinburgh and give history ‘a damn good telling’.
We have always prioritised and supported people and communities.
Each year we support a charity chosen by our team with each feedback form we receive generating a charity donation. For example, the past year we have been supporting the Lord Provost’s OneCity Trust campaign to install a statue for Dr Elsie Inglis.
We also support the Grassmarket Community Project with donations, venue hire and our storytellers for fundraising events as well as Macmillan Cancer through tickets to our events and unique walking tours to promote their work.
In 2016 we began our ‘Day in Edinburgh’ project, working with local schools with the aim to inspire pupils to consider tourism as a career choice and to showcase the variety of roles available.
As a walking tour company, sustainability is what we do. We promote a healthy, zero-impact, low emission way to enjoy Edinburgh and we have even been awarded Gold by the Green Tourism Business Scheme in recognition of our work.
We look forward to continuing this work and to continue working with people and communities in and around Edinburgh.
